Walter D. Rose

August 14, 1931 — July 6, 2024

Walter Daniel Rose, age 92 years, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024. He was the son of the late Arthur and Frances Marie Davis Rose. Named for both of his grandfathers, Harvey Walter Rose and Daniel Davis, he was born Aug. 14, 1931 at his Grandfather, Harvey Walter Rose’s home in German Hollow. He was married to Lillian P. Rhodes on 26 June 1948 in Gallipolis. She preceded him in death in 2013.

He was employed by Merrill & Marguerite Carter’s dairy farm at Bethesda for 22 years and was retired Herdsman for Roteema Farms Inc., Bowman S.C.

Dad was a devout Christian and one of the kindest people one could ever meet. Dad was a hard worker and was everybody’s “go-to”; always ready to help out a neighbor or friend. Dad never met a stranger. He was former Superintendent and Sunday school teacher at Bethesda Methodist Church for many years till he and mom left Gallia Co. After retirement, they returned home and attended the Northup Baptist Church. Dad rarely missed a Sunday service or a Wednesday night Bible Study. He looked forward to working every week with the “Helping Little Hands” quilting project at his church and for several years was the church janitor until he was not physically able to continue due to Parkinson's disease. He was a member of Patriot Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by our mom, Lillian, his parents and his sisters, Juanita (John Harold Drummond), and Thelma (Ray Stewart) and a brother, William W. Rose. Also preceded by a brother-in-law Clifford Rhodes who dad helped raise in our home at Bethesda.

He is survived by his children, Dottie Roviscane of Lexington, SC, Roma Irene (John) Warner, Middleport, Russell, at home, and Chris, Bowman, SC. He also leaves his very special friend and neighbor, Patty Vernon. He leaves 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

The following brothers and sisters survive: Marvella (Knapp) McQuaid, Huntington, WV, Joe (Kathleen) Rose, Mercerville, Esther Callicoat, Wilgus, Eileen (Bob) Smith, Gallipolis, Marlin (Nancy) Rose, Thurman, Lavonna Miller, Florida and Carolyn Kuhn, Tycoon Lake.
