Alberta L. Thornton

Alberta L. Thornton, 84, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Holzer Senior Care Center. She was born February 20, 1926 in Mudsoc, Ohio, daughter of the late Enoch and Garnet White Mahan. Alberta was married to Thomas R. Thornton and he preceded her in death in 1991. She was a hair dresser. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Jack Bailes and her son, Rick Thornton, both of Gallipolis; two granddaughters, Courtney Chris Wasch of Gallipolis and Katie S. Jeremy Jay of Bexley; two great grandchildren, Samantha Jay and Leah Wasch; several nieces and nephews. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thomas R. Thornton, a great granddaughter Kasandra Beth Jay in 2006; four sisters, Victoria Bush, Ida Eblin, Edna Sheets, Elva Dillon, and four brothers, Edgar, Charles, Bert and Frank Mahan. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Patrick officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Chris Wasch, Jeremy Jay, Rich Mahan, Henry Dillon, Joe Dayton, and Carl Lee Bush.
