Arthur L. Thevenin, Jr. 79, passed away on April 15, 2009 in Harrison, Arkansas. Born December 13, 1929 and raised in Gallipolis, Ohio, he lived most of his life in Columbus, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War onboard the USS Oriskany from 1949-1952. His ship was the first to conduct flight operations while sailing around Cape Horn. For 29 years he proudly served as a Lieutenant on the Columbus Police Department. Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Sr. and Mary Thevenin, brothers and sister-in-law, Luther and Ann Thevenin, Garland Thevenin and brothers-in-law, John Blank and Clarence Barton. He is survived by his wife, Clara Thevenin and former wife, Barbara Thevenin; children, Vic Marti Thevenin, Pam Jon Long, Laura Joe Taliaferro, Steve Thevenin and Rob Thevenin; stepchildren, Joe Dawn Harless, Coni Henry McClellan and Jim Harless; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Blank, Helen Barton and Bea Les Robinson; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home, 12 Garfield Avenue, Gallipolis, OH 45631.
