Bertina Smeltzer

Bertina Smeltzer, 98, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the Arbors at Gallipolis. She was born on December 4, 1909 in Cadmus, Ohio, daughter of the late William and Stella Lloyd Rutt. Bertina married Melvin O. Smeltzer and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1997. She was a retired secretary for Federal Land Bank and then was co-owner of Ambleside Garden Center. She was a member of First Church of God, Gallipolis and a former member of Gallipolis Garden Club. Surviving are a daughter, Joanne Shaw of Miamisburg; four sons, William Barbara Smeltzer and Gary Eve Smeltzer, both of Gallipolis, Robert Virginia Smeltzer of New Matamoras, and Jim Sue Smeltzer of Lancaster; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Bertina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin, a grandson Eddie Shaw Jr., and three brothers Wyman, Raymond and Bobby Rutt. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the First Church of God, SR 141, Gallipolis with Pastor Paul Voss officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the Willis Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. Her grandsons will be pallbearers.
