Charles E. Martin, 86, of Cheshire, Ohio passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at his residence.

Born on February 10, 1936 in Gallia County, Charles was the son of the late George Edward and Effie M. Martin.  Charles is survived by Shirley Watts Martin, his loving wife of 64 years.

Charles attended Addison Freewill Baptist Church where he was a tireless servant of the Lord, serving as deacon and trustee for many years.  He attended Cheshire High School and was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving as an MP during the Korean Conflict.  Charles is the former owner of Riverfront Honda and a self-employed contractor who built many homes in the Gallia County area.  In the community, Charles was active as a Little League coach, the president of the KCHS Athletic Boosters, a member of the Gallia County EMA Agency, and a long time Addison Township Trustee.  A devoted family man, Charles also farmed and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.  Additionally, he enjoyed several long distant motorcycle trips with this wife and friends.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Tom) Morgan and Andrea (Rusty) Prater and his son, Carey (Tammie) Martin all of Gallipolis; grandchildren, Dustin and Kory Cox, Brandon Prater, and Gracie Martin; and great grandson, Michael James Cox.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Martin; sister, Barbara Click; and grandson, Andrew Prater.

Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Addison Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Smith officiating.  Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., at the church.

Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery.  Military honors will be given by the Gallia County Funeral Detail at the graveside.  Pallbearers will be Tom Martin, Tom Watts, Joe Cremeans, Dustin Cox, Kory Cox, Rusty Prater, and Brandon Prater.  Tom Morgan will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.  Please consider a donation to Addison Freewill Baptist Church in Charles’s memory.
