Clester Tackett

Clester Tackett, 95, of Vinton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at home surrounded by family.

He was born on  June 10, 1929, in Virgie, KY, son of the late Milton and Pearl Tackett.  In addition to his parents, Clester was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Virginia Tackett; son-in-law, Ronnie Ellis; grandson, Tim Phillips II; sisters, Vesta Parsons, Louise Stollings, and Beatrice Hamilton; and brothers, Mont Tackett, Comas Tackett, Ireland Tackett, Maryland Tackett, and Lester Tackett.

Clester was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Rio Grande, Ohio and was retired from Laborer's Local 543, Huntington, West Virginia.  He was a Korean War Veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat during his service from January 1951 to October 1952.  He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and DAV.

He is survived by his children, Debbie Ellis of Bidwell, Clester Jr. and wife Donna of Vinton, Bonnie Phillips and husband Tim of Bidwell, Ray and wife Janet of Vinton, Patrick and wife Tracy of Bidwell, and Star Pullins and husband Marvin of Bidwell; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and eagerly awaiting the arrival of a great-grandson in October; and brothers, Sterling Tackett of Sunbury, Ohio and Freel Tackett of Bidwell.

In addition to family, Clester was blessed with several caregivers (Angels) Rhonda White, Jeanette Ingles, Mitch Salyers, Kathy Fillinger, and granddaughter, Beckie Coon, along with his comfort companions, Scooter and Max.

In addition to spending time with his family, Clester enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and his dogs and cat.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Marc Sarrett and David Perry officiating.  Burial will follow in Mount Tabor Cemetery, Vinton, Ohio.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30-2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holzer Hospice, VFW Honor Guard, or Gallia County Hometown Veterans Banner Program.
