Corena Thompson

Corena Thompson, 83, Gallipolis, Ohio, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at O.S.U. Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Corena was born on February 2, 1938 in Crown City, Ohio, daughter of the late George and Laura Walls McGuire. Corena was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Gallipolis, Ohio. She enjoyed gardening and playing dominoes. Corena was married to Robert Joseph Thompson; and he preceded her in death on April 23, 2013. In addition to her parents and husband, Corena was preceded in death by a son, Robert Joseph Thompson, Jr.; grandson, Jeremy Thompson; daughter-in-law, Corinne Thompson; five brothers, Thurman, Lester, Sherman, Marvin, and Stanford McGuire; and three sisters, Rosalee Dray, Geneva Cox, and Mildred Schumacker. Corena is survived by three sons, Mark Stephen (Candy) Thompson of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Hal Curtis (Jakee) Thompson of Grove City, Ohio, and Paul Elden (Wendy) Thompson of Syracuse, New York; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Thompson of Gallipolis; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; one sister, Garnet Queen of Crown City; two brothers, Glenvil McGuire of Jackson, Ohio and Lenvil McGuire of Chillicothe, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Corena will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Young officiating. Her burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
