Dana Lee Laywell

Dana Lee Laywell “The greatest man we have ever known” Dana Lee Laywell, 79, of Bidwell passed from this world to join his loved ones in Heaven April 27, 2020 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia. Dana was born on January 22, 1941 the youngest son of the late David E. Laywell Sr. and Dorothy M. (Clagg) Laywell. Dana enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren, fishing, watching westerns, and mowing the grass. Dana was preceded in death by his loving and faithful wife of 56 years Lydia E. (Plants) Laywell; his daughter Debora M. (Laywell) Thomae; two brothers David E. Laywell, Jr. and Robert D. Laywell Sr.; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Gilbert L. and Opal I. (Neal) Plants. Dana and Lydia were married on February 24, 1962. Dana was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 200 from where he retired in 1996. He is survived by his three daughters Donna F. (John) Greer of Hillsboro, Oregon, Vivian D. Leffel of Bidwell, Ohio, and Bobbi Jo (David) Johnson of Galloway, Ohio; two sisters Vivian M. (Laywell) Schultz and L. Joan (Laywell) Roush both of Ellenton, Florida; and two sisters-in-law Anita M. (Huss) Laywell, of Bidwell, Ohio and Marvis Maudine (Rambo) Laywell of Springfield, Ohio. Grandchildren surviving are Lydia N. Ferguson, Amber L. (Micah) Levine, Ashley E. Thomae, Cassi C. (Selena) Thomae, Tabitha L. Leffel, Tiffany J. Leffel, Gabrielle L. (Thomas) Lay, Matthew L. Leffel, Jr., Cayla C. Clark, Calli C. Clark-Greer, Michael P. (Lauren) Clark, Jr., and Lindsay J. Johnson. Great grandchildren surviving are Dayna (Lexi), Myles, Daymien, Dalton, Jordan, Elliana, Alliaundrea, Avianna, Emilaya, Zayne, Owen, Abigayle, Aaron, Jaxon, Andrew, Carter, and Charlotte. Dana is also leaving behind brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many other loved ones. There will be a private family service for Dana on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Willis Funeral Home with Reverend Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bidwell. Pallbearers will be David A. Johnson, Michael P. Clark, Jr., Matthew L. Leffel, Jr., David E. Laywell III, Thaddaeus G. Laywell, Sr., Robert D. Laywell, Jr. Jefferey D. Laywell, and J. Patrick Logan. Dana’s daughters would like to extend their gratitude to the excellent staff of the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their caring and supportive actions toward our family during Daddy’s time there.
