Danny Lee Cummons September 25, 1945 – April 26, 2025

Danny Lee Cummons, 79, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio. Born on September 25, 1945, in Lecta, Ohio, he was the beloved son of the late William H. and Bessie V. (Sprouse) Cummons.

On January 18, 1964, Danny married his sweetheart and the love of his life, Shirley Saunders Cummons, who survives him. They spent 61 wonderful years together, showing a true testament to unwavering love and devotion.

A proud veteran, Danny honorably served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, including time spent courageously fighting in Vietnam. After his service, he returned home and navigated several successful businesses. In 1979, Danny started Cummons Contracting and worked alongside his brother Tom and nephews. Through dedication and hard work, he successfully operated the business for nearly 40 years before retiring.

Danny found peace and happiness at his home on the Ohio River, where Shirley and he poured their love into every detail. Together, they created a sanctuary with a beautiful pond, numerous cascading waterfalls he built, and meticulously tended landscaping, all reflecting their shared devotion and care. He always had a love of cars, collecting many throughout his life. Danny had a gift for storytelling that brought his family together and could always bring a laugh or smile. He also adored his dogs, who filled his days with unconditional love and companionship.

Danny is survived by his wife, Shirley Cummons of Gallipolis and daughter, Danielle Rathburn. He was the proud Poppy to Shantelle (Nathan) Rimmey, Emma Rathburn, Jack Rathburn, and great grandsons, Miles Jeffrey and Krew Rimmey due in October.

Also surviving is his brother, Kenneth Cummons of Gallipolis; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Cummons of Gallipolis and Sharon Cummons of Hilliard, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and family.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert A. Cummons, William F. Cummons, and Thomas H. Cummons; sister-in-law, Nellie Cummons; and son-in-law, Jeffrey L. Rathburn.

The funeral service for Danny will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Moore officiating. Entombment will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens Chapel of Hope Mausoleum. Friends and family may call prior to the service Friday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mark Cummons, Jerry Cummons, Randy Cummons, Scott Cummons, Nate Cummons, and Jack Rathburn.

He leaves behind a life filled with love, service, and cherished memories. Danny will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
