David B. Chapman

February 16, 1937 — July 15, 2022

David Brandt Chapman, 85, of Crown City, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord and his Savior on July 15, 2022 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. David Brandt (Duke) Chapman was born on February 16, 1937 in Monaville, (Logan County), WV, son of the late Zeph and Gypsie Mae (Bartram) Chapman. He was the fourth of nine children.

David was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from September 1955 to July 1959. His service took him to Samson AFB, New York; Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, Texas, where he trained as a flight aircraft mechanic; Kimpo AB Republic of South Korea; and Bolling AFB, Washington, D.C.

David was employed for a time as a mine foreman followed by a long career as a highway construction supervisor, improving the highway system of Ohio.

David was married to Carolyn Louella Craig of Gallia County on April 14, 1956, who was the love of his life. Carolyn and David made their permanent home on Swan Creek, Gallia County, Ohio until her death on November 13, 2009. David was a member of Mt. Zion Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Crown City, Ohio. David is survived by his five children, Sherri Jean (Bobby) Shaw, Terry David (Donna) Chapman, Cheryl Ann (Rick) Clary, Craig Andrew Chapman, and Cindy Sue (Loren) Beaver all of Crown City, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Nell D. (Ross) Carter of Niceville, Florida; one brother, Rev. Jimmy (Beverly) Chapman of Centenary, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Candy Chapman of Navarre, Ohio, Marion "Dutch" Chapman, and Sue Craig Campbell both of Gallipolis, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by five brothers, Evan Roger Chapman, Glen Reed Chapman, John Martin Chapman, Andy Shayde Chapman, and Richard Logan Chapman one sister, Janet Rose McKinney;brother-in-law Donald McKinney; and sisters-in-law, Velma (Kitchen) Chapman, Rebecca Knowles, Paula (Pitts) Chapman, and Virginia (Faulkner) Chapman.

The funeral service for David will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Mt. Zion Independent Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Chapman officiating. His burial will follow in Victory Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Willis Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. There will military honors given at the graveside by the Gallia County Funeral Detail.
