David A. Poling, 32, of Crown City, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 in a line of duty accident in Gallipolis. He was born on March 13, 1975 in Grafton, West Virginia, son of David Poling and Vivian K. Nye Davis. David was married to Michelle Ours on June 3, 1995. David was a probation officer for Gallipolis Municipal Court, a Gallia County Sheriff’s Deputy, and the Town Marshall for Crown City. He was a Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps, serving as an MP. He attended Guyan Valley Missionary Baptist Church, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Captain of the District 2 Fire Dept., formerly with the Gallipolis Police Dept., a Hannan Trace Rinky Dink Basketball coach, a Hannan Trace Softball Girls B Ball coach, and a former member of the United States Police Canine Association. He was an avid hunter and Steelers fan. Special men who served as father figures and helped to shape David’s life were Roger L. Ours, Garland Montgomery and Everett Montgomery. Matt Champlin was a special friend, brother and comrade. David’s ambition in life was to be a public servant and above all else the best husband and dad he could be. Surviving him are his wife, Michelle Lea Ours Poling of Crown City; two daughters, Mikayla Lea Poling, Faith Elizabeth Poling, and a nephew, Jacob Alan, all of the home; his parents, David Poling of Grafton, West Virginia and Vivian K. Davis of Crown City; a brother, Lawrence Russell Fornash of Lebanon; a sister, Natalie K. Blevins of Middletown; his mother-in-law, Virgie M. Ours of Crown City; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father-in-law, Roger Lee Ours. Services will be 1 p.m., Monday, May 28, 2007 at the Lyne Center, University of Rio Grande with Pastor Les Boggs, Pastor Garland Montgomery, Pastor Dean Warner and Pastor Bob Fulton officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, May 27, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Gallipolis, Ohio. There will be full military graveside services. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in David’s memory to a trust fund for his children set up at the Ohio Valley Bank, 420 Third Avenue, Gallipolis, OH 45631.
