David L. Shaffer, 50, of Gallipolis, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at his residence. He was born July 4, 1958 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, son of the late Jerry L. Shaffer and Irene Greene Shaffer, who survives him. He was a 1976 graduate of Hannan Trace High School. David married Vicky Smith and she also survives him. He was a member of Elizabeth Chapel Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Financial Committee and a past deacon. He retired from the Ohio Valley Bank as a Senior Vice President. David's hobbies were hunting, camping and farming. Surviving are his wife, Vicky Shaffer of Gallipolis; his son, Brian Shaffer of Huntington, West Virginia; his mother, Irene Shaffer of Gallipolis; one brother, Paul R. Lisa Shaffer of Patriot; nephews, Jordan Tiffany Shaffer of Millersburg and Jered Shaffer of Patriot; great nephew, Jordan Lane Shaffer of Millersburg; a special aunt, Naomi Wilcoxon of Gallipolis; his father-in-law, William 'Bill' Galena Smith of Florida; his mother-in-law, Glenna Henderson of Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathy Louis Blackwell, Loris Matthew Hall and Mike Smith, all of Georgia, Melinda Jeremy Clonch of Gallipolis, Glenda Henderson of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, Sarah Smith and Colleen Smith, both of Florida; nephews, Zachery Hayes, Andy Tabby Smith, Joey Smith, Garrett Saunders, Blaik Saunders, Alex Bonecutter, Justin Runyon, and Michael Stewart; nieces, Donna Ryan Browning, Sarah Josh Polcyn, Bridgett Barron, Gretchen Barron and Maggie Saunders; several aunts, uncles and cousins. David was preceded in death by his father, Jerry L. Shaffer in 1984, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kelly and Chuck Caldwell, a niece and nephew, Kari and Jacob Hayes and a brother-in-law James. Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Carnes and Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 5-9 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jordan and Jered Shaffer, Pat Tackett, Rick Swain, Kerry Ours, and Terry Wilcoxon.
