On August 8, 2021, Donna Jean Baisden Grate went home to be with her Heavenly Father. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to many. She passed away at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri on August 8, 2021. Donna Jean Baisden was born in Mingo County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Grace (Conley) Baisden. Donna married Charles Grate in November, 1956. She and Charles raised their family in Patriot, Ohio on his family farm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Glen Grate , son, Keith Alan Grate, and all of her seven siblings. Donna was a lifelong homemaker. She was a gifted seamstress and quilter. Donna mended and sewed for family, friends, and many others in her community. There was no sewing project she could not tackle. Among her many projects, sewing dresses was her favorite. She made many sewing and quilting memories with her special friend, Hettie Trout. Motherhood is the unselfishness to care for and put others before your own needs. Donna embodied the role of a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family, in particular her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved visiting her grandkids, whether in person or on FaceTime. She followed everyone’s family pictures via Facebook and Instagram. She looked forward to new pictures on her newsfeed every day. Donna was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Columbia, Missouri. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Grace “Jeanie” (& Charles) Judy, Columbia, Missouri, grandchildren, Natalie (& Ben) Blackmon, Apex, North Carolina, Cole Miller, Chillicothe, Ohio, Callie (& Cameron) Volle, New Bloomfield, Missouri, Landon Grate, St. Petersburg, Florida, Kacie Grate (& Ryan Burger), Gallipolis, Ohio, and her great grandchildren, James and Mason Miller, Nora, Savannah, and Everly Blackmon, Amelia Volle, Emma Grace Orsos, and Cambree and Cason Burger. A service to celebrate and honor her earthly life will be August 26 at 11:00 am at Salem Baptist Church, Patriot, Ohio.
