Dorothy Jean Plumley
March 13, 1946 - July 12, 2024
Dorothy was a woman among women. She did everything her own way, unconcerned about conforming to the expectations of others.
She had a kind heart and an even more kind soul. Dorothy was a woman fierce of love. She spent her life loving and fussing at her husband of 59 years, whose love story she continued to tell to anyone who would listen even through her last days. They were a romantic couple, holding hands and courting on the couch at every opportunity. She was his devoted and determined caregiver for many years.
Dorothy was a part of a rather large and ever growing family. She was a caring and proud mother, grandmother, family member, neighbor, and friend.
She loved to grow things, work outside, and shop. Her favorite color was orange; and she loved creamsicle, orange soda, and cheese puffs. She drank her coffee from one very particular mug.
Dorothy was a meticulous cook, shooing children out of the kitchen and making the best food (love was always found inside).
A beauty product junkie (a trait she passed down to a few of us) who once owned a home beauty salon, often gifting people hair tools and products because she knew all the best ways to make your hair healthy and beautiful.
Dorothy’s toughness and strength far exceeded her family’s understanding. Her laughter and smile must have been made of the stars. She is and will always be cherished, a part of who we are, and deeply missed by her loved ones.
No formal service will be held because that’s just how Dorothy wanted it.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude for her caregivers from Cabell Huntington Hospital, Hospice of Huntington, and The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
