Edith Dodrill Thomas, 80, of Rodney, passed away at her home on Sunday, April 27, 2008. She was born March 5, 1928 in Gallia County, daughter of the late James Garfield Dodrill and Bessie C. Phillips Dodrill. She graduated from Vinton High School and Rio Grande College. She began teaching on a 'cadet' certificate but later completed her bachelor's degree. She spent most of her 30 year teaching career at Washington Elementary in Gallipolis, Ohio. After retiring, she and her husband, Emiel, traveled extensively and enjoyed over 20 years as a 'snowbird' in Florida from November to April. She was 'Peedy' to her family and successfully 'spoiled' 3 generations of nieces and nephews. She was an exquisite baker, candy maker and seamstress. She was a member of Gallipolis Christian Church, Gallia County Retired Teachers and the Ohio Retired Teachers Associations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emiel A. Thomas in 2005; five sisters, Kathryn D. Moore, Ruth Casto, Fern, Helen and Beatrice Dodrill and two brothers, Garfield Dodrill and James Jr. Dodrill. She is survived by one sister, Norma C.R. 'Bud Gustin of Venice, Florida; one brother, Robert Clara Jane Dodrill of McArthur, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Helen Thomas of Rodney and dozens of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and two special great great nephews, Jonathan and Austin Casto of Vinton, Ohio. Following Edith's wishes there will be a graveside service at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Vinton Memorial Park with Pastor Dave Stulley officiating.
