Eldon Jefferson Gates

Eldon Jefferson Gates, 88, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Abbyshire Place after battling lung cancer.

Born on March 31, 1936 in Patriot, Ohio, Eldon was the son of the late Edwin and Bessie (Shelton) Gates.  Eldon married Betty Lou Pinkerman Gates, who preceded him in death on December 7, 2012.  He retired from Gallipolis Developmental Center with 30 years of service, attended Canaan Missionary Church, and was a Christian.

Eldon is survived by his nieces, Kathy (Mike) Nibert of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia and Susie (JR) Bays of Southside, West Virginia and nephew, David (Cathy) Winslow of St. Augustine, Florida.  In addition to his parents and his wife Betty, Eldon was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Winslow of Vero Beach, Florida; Dorothy Mikesell of Vero Beach, Florida; Jean (Hayward) Sheets of Gallipolis, Ohio; and Marcella Gates in infancy.

A Graveside Service for Eldon will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in Providence Cemetery with Pastor Billy Morris officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eldon's memory to a charity of one's choice.
