Ellis C. Alexander, 83, of Bidwell went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at his residence. He was born on August 18, 1923 in East Jordan, Michigan to Thurman and Ruth Qualls Alexander. Ellis was a retired truck driver from Smith Transportation in Staunton, VA where he received many driving and safety awards. He acquired a million plus miles without having a chargeable accident. He was a member of Teamsters Local 175 in Kanawha City, WV, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Grayson, KY, and attended the White Oak Baptist Church. Ellis was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and received an accommodation for being the first and youngest truck driver to cross the Russian Supply Line during WW II. Ellis is survived by his wife Macel Tompkins Alexander, whom he married on March 12, 1948 in Charleston, WV, one daughter and son-in-law, Susan Robert Scott of Bidwell; a grandson Robert Shannon Scott of Bidwell, two great grandchildren, Cameron and Madison Scott, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Alexander and Ruth Qualls Alexander Lester, two brothers Everett and Chester Alexander, and a sister Hazel Moomaw. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Willis Funeral Home with Rev. James Harris and Rev. Carl Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire, Ohio.
