Emerson E. Unroe, 79, of Gallipolis, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Holzer Medical Center. He was born on January 13, 1933 in Gallia County, Ohio son of the late Harry Harold and Virginia Irene Miller Unroe. Emerson spent forty years in the glass plant industry, 23 years at Federal Glass, 10 years at Anchor Hocking and 10 years at Lancaster Colony in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting. Emerson was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Gallipolis. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Nancy Queen Unroe whom he married on December 21, 1953 in Gallia County and she survives him in Gallipolis, along with a son Michael (Karen) Unroe of Rockbridge, Ohio and one daughter Carol (Jerry) Tindall of Grove City, Ohio; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, one brother Rex (Pauline) Unroe of Gallipolis, and one sister Eileen Willis of Gallipolis, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother Harry Harold Unroe, Jr. and by two infant siblings. Funeral services will be 1 pm Friday, February 24, 2012 at the First Church of the Nazarene Gallipolis, with Pastors Mark Grizzard and Eugene Harmon officiating, burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Willis Funeral Home. There will be a flag presentation at the cemetery by volunteers of area veterans lodges.
