1937-2025

Ervin Curtis Criner, 87, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025 at OSU Medical Center East in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born August 18, 1937 in Mason County, West Virginia, the son of Rudy and Lena Mae (Walker) Criner who preceded him in death.

He served in the U.S. Army in Verdon, France from 1961-1963.  While there, one of his favorite memories was witnessing how the crowd cheered President John F. Kennedy giving his speech at the Berlin Wall.  He was proud to be an American.

Ervin retired from Denison Hydraulics in 1999 in Marysville, Ohio where he worked for 29 years.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leanna Marie (Criner) Bowen; brother, Carol O’dell Criner; and niece, Beverly Irene (Rowland) Lawrence.

Ervin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Lee (Halley) Criner whom he married November 26, 1965; son, Daniel Curtis Criner; grandsons, William Lee Bowen and Nicholas James Patrick Bowen; sister, Phyllis Irene (Criner) Rowland; sisters-in-law, Diana Kay Halley (Chuck) Raming and Brenda Sue Stover (John) Halley; nieces, Dara Lyn Lawrence (Shawn) Ratner, Jessica Sue Halley (Andrew) Boeke, Megan Joanna (Danny) Latka; nephew, John Darius Jr. (Anthony) Halley; grandnieces, Victoria Ratner, Halley Rose Boeke, Stella Marie Boeke, and Evelyn May Lalka; and grand nephews, Alexander Milton Ratner, Kellan Andrew Darius Boeke, and Noah Lee Darius Lalka.

Ervin was a member of the Gallia County Genealogical Society, the Gallipolis American Legion Post 27, and the Avery Lodge No. 493, Hilliard, Ohio.

As per Ervin’s request, there will be no calling hours or service.
