Florence M. Clay

Florence M. Clay, 79, of Gallipolis, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. She was born May 19, 1931 in Gallia County, Ohio, daughter of the late LeRoy Elliott Sr. and Ora Estella Thomason Elliott. Florence married Nathan H. Clay on August 29, 1953 in Gallia County and he survives her. She was retired from the Gallipolis Developmental Center. She was a member of Bulaville Christian Church where she served as Church Treasurer for many years, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and she enjoyed cooking. Surviving are her husband, Nathan H. Clay of Gallipolis; a son, David (Polly) Clay and a daughter, Shirley (Lonnie) McCoy, both of Gallipolis; five grandchildren, Justin McCoy, Kelsey (Brandon) Mitchem, Garrison Salisbury, Kelly McCoy, and Sherri McCoy; a great granddaughter, Kylie Paige Mitchem; two sisters, Pearl (Jim Conkle) Leifheit of Gallipolis and Joyce (Greg Mantor) Browning of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Emmett (Eleanor) Elliott of Gallipolis, Carroll K. Elliott of New Philadelphia, Ohio, James D. (Sharon) Elliott of Dover, Ohio, and Charles V. (Jeannie) Elliott of New Philadelphia, Ohio; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter (Geneva) Clay Jr. of South Carolina, Franklin Clay of Circleville, Carl (Lois) Clay of South Carolina, Tom Clay of Columbus, Louise Caldwell of Bidwell, Geneva (A.C.) Gibbs of Florida, Virginia Racer of Delaware, Ohio, Mary Lou Gay of Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Vivian Benson, a brother LeRoy Elliott Jr., two brothers-in-law Edgar Clay and Lester Clay, and two sisters-in-law Redith Bartrum and Ardith Hudgins. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Tracewell and Rev. Joseph Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in Rife Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. A VFW Ladies Auxiliary service will be at the funeral home Friday, prior to the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Lonnie McCoy, Justin McCoy, Chris Elliott, Montgomery Elliott, Jonathan Elliott, and Elias Elliott.
