Garner Franklin Wall

December 26, 1932 — December 29, 2020

Garner Franklin Wall, born in 1932, from Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away at Holzer Assisted Living in Jackson, Ohio on December 29, 2020. Garner was born in Scottown, Ohio. He lived on a small farm with his parents, Ernest and Flossie Haskins Wall, and siblings, Hollis Wall, Hillis Wall, Audrey Wall Thompson, Conley Wall, and Donald Wall. Growing up in the 1930’s helped him develop an outstanding work ethic. He graduated early from high school and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Garner retired from Rodding department at Ravenswood Aluminum Plant after 38 years. After returning from the service, Garner married the late Delores “June” Burcham in 1956. They met on a blind date. They had three children, Cathy (Jeff) Wall Icard of Gallipolis, Ohio, the late Terry Wall, and Kelly (Robert) Wall Waugh of Jackson, Ohio. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Larry (Mary) Burcham. Garner sang bass and was a member of the Redeemers Gospel Quartet in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He loved gospel music and singing; he also played the harmonica. He was a member of the First Church of God in Gallipolis, Ohio. Garner lived on Sunset Drive in Gallipolis for 48 years and was known to quietly help neighbors in need with mowing their lawn, maybe helping to fix a vacuum, shovel their sidewalks, or give advice on car maintenance. He had a strong sense of duty and service to his friends, neighbors, and family. He was such a kind, generous, and loving father, husband, and grandfather. He was Pawpaw to seven grandchildren, Lindsey (Justin) Miller, Corey (Rebecca) Icard, Nicole Wall, Alexandra Davis, Robert Andrew Waugh, Abigail Waugh, and Lilianna Waugh and two great grandchildren, Riggs Miller and Reece Miller. Pawpaw loved to spend time with his family and play and joke around with his grandchildren. We all affectionately remember him saying things like, “Take your time, but hurry,” or when he was patiently waiting on someone, he would say, “Let’s went.” He always said he would do anything for his family, and we all knew that was genuine. His family will miss his kind, gentle personality, strong work ethic, and his silly jokes. We find peace in knowing he lived his 88 years well and now rests in the arms of the Lord, where he will be with his wife, “June,” and son, Terry, and his siblings, other family and friends who have gone home before him. Due to current public health circumstances, only a family funeral service will be held at the Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis, Ohio on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Private burial will follow at Miller Cemetery in Crown City, Ohio. There will be military rites given at the graveside by the Gallia County Funeral Detail. There will be no visitation hours due to current public health concerns. Friends may leave their sentiments and condolences by visiting www.willisfuneralhome.com
