Geneva 'Jude' McGuire Cox, 85, passed away on Sunday evening, June 7, 2009 at the home of her daughter, Sharon in Jackson, after an extended illness. Geneva was formerly from the Little Bullskin/Mercerville area, where she made her home with her late husband, Willard T. Cox, after being married 59 years. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2001. They were the parents of seven children, Gearld Wanda E. Cox, John Nancy Cox, Shirley Tom Stephens, Richard SandyCox, Dale Carol Cox, all of Gallipolis, Stanford Denise Lambert Cox of Cheshire and Sharon Wade Bishop of Jackson. She was a lifetime homemaker and mother. She enjoyed working in her flowers and garden, taking Sunday drives, pickin' berries with her grandchildren but most of all being a proud mother and grandmother. She attended church wherever she lived but was a member of Dickey Chapel. There are 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren who will miss her dearly, along with several step great grandchildren. She was born April 26, 1924 in Gallia County to the late George and Laura Walls McGuire. Surviving brothers and sisters are Glenvil McGuire of Chillicothe, Lenvil McGuire of Ashville, Othie McGuire of Grass Valley, California, Garnet Queen of Crown City and Corena Thompson of Gallipolis. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul, two granddaughters, one great granddaughter, four brothers, two sisters and six nephews. Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home with the Rev. Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow at Mina Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Reed Bishop, Kevin Bloomer, Adam Cox, Heath Cox, Aaron Phillips, Gearld Lee Cade and Austin Phillips.
