Gerald Jeffers Pope

Gerald Jeffers 'Jeff' Pope, 66, of Gallipolis passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at his residence. Jeff was born on July 15, 1943 in Gallia County to the late Paul Gerald Pope and A. Margaret Jeffers Pope who survives. He was a farmer and for fourteen years was an agricultural education teacher at Utica High School and North Gallia High School. Jeff was a retired Perry Township Trustee. He enjoyed raising beef cattle and four wheeling with his granddaughters. Jeff was a member of the Thurman United Methodist Church and a member of the Patriot Masonic Lodge #496. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1961 and was a 1967 graduate of The Ohio State University. Jeff married Carole Ann Jones on August 26, 1966 in Thurman, Ohio and they had two children who survive, a daughter Holly Chris Petro of Gallipolis, and a son Jeffrey Michele Pope of Gallipolis; five granddaughters, Madison, Morgan and Mallory Petro, and Mikayla and Mikenzi Pope. He is also survived by his mother A. Margaret Pope of Patriot, two brothers Tom Cathy Pope of Gallipolis, and David Linda Pope of Patriot; a sister-in-law Bette Jones of Utica, and a brother-in-law Danny Jones of Oak Hill, Ohio. Also surviving is a special friend Marta Prose of Gallipolis. Jeff was preceded in death by his wife Carole in 2004 and his father Paul Pope in 2002. Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Centerpoint. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 5-9 pm at Willis Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic Service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:30 pm. Pallbearers will be Jim Burleson, Jennings Ferguson, Mark Hager, Larry Marr, George Pope, and Phil Pope. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayland Ferguson, Bruce Gabriel, Kerry Hodge, Donald Myers, Henry Myers, Bob Pope, Don Pope, and Dave Rankin.
