Gerald D. "Jerry" Sayre

Gerald D. “Jerry” Sayre, 91, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Holzer Medical Center.

Born on November 14, 1931 in Mason County, West Virginia, Jerry was the son of the late Andy M. and Virginia Berkley Sayre. Jerry married Mary Lewis Sayre, who survives him in Gallipolis; they shared 57 years of marriage. He was a lineman for Buckeye Rural Electric. Jerry was a United States Navy veteran who served in the Korean War and was a member of Tin Can Association and several Navy reunion associations. He attended Rodney Church of Light and enjoyed yardwork, the Cincinnati Reds, and his grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Sayre of Gallipolis; daughter, Laura (Barry) McQuithy of Lewis Center, Ohio; three grandchildren, Bryant (Whitney) McQuithy, Brandon McQuithy, and Lindsey McQuithy; one great grandchild, Evelyn McQuithy; special niece, Cindy Hash of Vinton, Ohio; brother, Roy “Stub” Sayre of Gallipolis; sister, Janice (Jay) Hebert of Leesville, Louisiana; and sisters-in-law, Ann Sayre of Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Ann Berent.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Sayre, Samuel Sayre, Billy Sayre, Roscoe “Coe” Sayre, Jeffrey Sayre, and Glen Sayre and brothers-in-law, John R. Lewis and Nick Berent.

The funeral service for Jerry will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Todd Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Gallia County Funeral Detail at the cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
