Glen Hammons, 73, of Bidwell, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Holzer Medical Center. He was born October 12, 1939 in Kanawha, West Virginia, son of the late Clyde W. and Ethel G. Williams Hammons. Glen married Eileen Taylor and she survives him. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he served for four years, then two years in the Reserves. While stationed in Alaska, he received a certificate for 2000 miles of cross country skiing. Glen is retired from Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative and was a member of Rodney Church of Light. He was an avid softball fan, loved camping, hunting and fishing with his family. He loved playing with his grandkids and farming. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Eileen Hammons of Bidwell; four children, Cheryl (David) Murray, Charlene (Mike) Hemphill, and David (Wendy) Hammons, all of Bidwell and Michael (Stefanie) Hammons of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Matthew Hemphill, Kindra Hammons, Tayler Bradbury, Hannah, J.T., Abby, Emma and Gabe Hammons; a sister, Sharon (Larry) West of Bidwell. In addition to his parents, Glen is preceded in death by a brother and sister in infancy, Charles and Doris Ann. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Willis Funeral Home. In honor and respect of Father’s Day, funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2013 at Rodney Church of Light with Pastor Arland King officiating. Entombment will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Chapel of Hope Mausoleum. There will be military services by volunteers of area veteran’s lodges. Pallbearers will be Todd Hines, Jake Wayt, Alex Greer, Sammy Hemphill, Timothy Hersman, Ethan Hersman, Matthew Hemphill, and Eric Whitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Myers and Carter Messer. Pop played, coached and loved to watch church softball. His current pet project was the softball field and shelter house for the Rodney Church of Light.
