Ira C. Wellman

Pastor Ira C. Wellman, 84, of Gallipolis went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2009 at the Four Winds Community in Jackson, Ohio surrounded by his family. He was born on February 16, 1924 in Louisa, Kentucky to Paris F. and Glema B. Hensley Wellman. Pastor Wellman was a non-denominational pastor pasturing various churches in our area for fifty plus years. He was also a construction painter and a dedicated member of the Painter's Union for fifty plus years in Tampa, Florida. He was also a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. Ira was married to Irene Smith Wellman on October 13, 1945 in Pikeville, Kentucky and she survives him in Gallipolis. He is also survived by one son David Ira Angela Wellman of Gallipolis and by two daughters, Donna David Russell of Flagstaff, Arizona and Diana Racer of Delaware, Ohio; a daughter-in-law Candice C. Wellman of Gallipolis; eight grandchildren Michelle Brian Miller of Glenford, Ohio, David Ira Stacey Wellman, Jr. of Farmington, West Virginia, Jason Jennifer Swisher of Fairplay, Colorado, Brandy Krouse of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia, Celena Jason Sprouse of Columbus, Ohio, Lauren Russell of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Kolt Racer of Columbus, Ohio, and Miela Wellman of Gallipolis, Ohio; six great grandchildren; two sisters Dorothy Joseph Brackens of Tennessee and Delores Wyatt of Crestline, Ohio; three brothers James Vickie Wellman of Arkansas, William Carol Wellman of Illinois, and Robert Inez Wellman of South Carolina. One son Pastor William Daniel Wellman preceded him in death. Services will be 1 pm Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Oldaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call on Monday, January 5, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Willis Funeral Home. There will be full military rites given at the cemetery by volunteers of area veteran lodges.
