Irena Skaggs

Irena Skaggs, 88, of Rio Grande, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025. Born on September 19, 1936, she was a cherished mother, wife, and sister.

Irena was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mary and Howard Pollock; her siblings, Mable Skaggs, Imogene McCloskey, and Howard Pollock; her children, Gary Allen Skaggs and Mary Christine Skaggs; and her granddaughter, Cassie Skaggs.

She is survived by her devoted husband, James Skaggs; her loving children, Randy Skaggs, Mike Skaggs, Linda (Doug) Hale, and Connie (Ronnie) Anderson; ten grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren, who were the source of her greatest pride.

As a dedicated member, Irena was deeply involved with the Oak Hill Senior Citizens Center, where she found joy and purpose in connecting with fellow seniors and serving as club president for many years. Whether participating in social events, assisting with community outreach, or making homemade noodles, she cherished the camaraderie and support the center provided.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate staff of Holzer Assisted Living and Holzer Hospice for their dedicated care and support during Irena’s final days.

A memorial service to celebrate Irena Skaggs's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Howard officiating.  Her burial will follow in Tyn Rhos Cemetery.  Friends and family may call at the funeral home Monday, from noon until the time of the service.
