James Henry Maddox, affectionately known as Jimmy or Jim, age 78, of Gallia County, near Rio Grande, Ohio, went home on March 23, 2024, surrounded by family. James was born in Culloden, West Virgina on October 13, 1945. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irene Maddox; sisters, Helen Mollette and Lee (Norma) Deridder; stepson, Rodger Thacker, Jr.; brother-in-law, Max Skeens; and his faithful canine companion, Henry. He is survived by wife, Dewanna Maddox; children, Brad Maddox, Jodi (Tony) Delgado, Amy (Jed) Hegwood, and Lori Thacker (Jason); brothers, Bill Maddox (Sherri) and Matthew (Karen) Maddox; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; multiple cousins, nephews, and nieces; special family friend, Melisa Massie; and numerous other family and friends.
Jim was a retired truck driver who had seen every state in the union, including Hawaii and Alaska. He cherished his time with loved ones. Jim had a passion for the outdoors; and some of his favorite pastimes included riding his Harley, family Kayak trips, and especially spending time at the family farm with his beloved Henry by his side. He was an avid reader who loved trivia, rarely missing an episode of Jeopardy, and enjoyed completing the New York Times crossword puzzle.
He was known for his intellect, quick wit, and friendly easy-going demeanor. Jim was a wonderful, precious gift of a human being. For all of us who love him, there are no goodbyes. Wherever we are, he will always be in our hearts.
