James Herbert “Jimmy” McQuaid, Jr., 78, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Abbyshire Place.
Born on December 22, 1945 in Ironton, Ohio, Jimmy was the son of the late James “Herb” McQuaid, Sr. and Mable Warren McQuaid. Jimmy never met a stranger and, in turn, made many friends throughout his life. If you ever traveled to Mill Cread Road, you more thank likely saw him riding his bike. He rode all over Gallipolis. Jimmy enjoyed going to the Gallipolis City Park where he would enjoy sitting while having a cold pop and a candy bar. Jimmy also looked forward to stopping at the local Shake Shoppe for a burger and chocolate shake. Jimmy attended Gallco, where he worked with the mowing crew and played basketball. He enjoyed playing the harmonica. Jimmy was also known by his CB handle, “The Candy Man.” During Jimmy’s younger days, he would head to church service early; he would get the fireplace going to heat up the church before everyone arrived. If you ever met Jimmy, he was impossible to forget.
Jimmy is survived by a sister, Nancy Buttrick, who devoted her time to caring for Jimmy; a sister, Leona “Onie” Harrison; brother-in-law, Donovan Sanders; sister-in-law, JoAnn McQuaid; aunt, Nancy Warren; special niece, Carla Ireland; special friend, Gary Janey; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him endlessly.
