John Harold Gill

December 26, 1930 — September 2, 2008

John Harold Gill, 77, of Patriot, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 peacefully at his home after an illness. He was born December 26, 1930 in Henderson, West Virginia, son of the late John Sines and Eleanor VanMeter Blaine Gill. He married Sally Ann Caldwell of Pennsylvania in 1952. John was a U.S. Navy veteran with four years of service in the Korean Conflict, where he served as a diesel mechanic. He was a dairy farmer for many years before moving from West Virginia to Ohio where he continued with dairy farming. John also worked at the Chris Craft Plant in Gallipolis and retired from AEP as a Chief Engineer with their River Division. After retirement he took up genealogy as a hobby. He was a member of Patriot Masonic Lodge #496, American Legion Post 27 and attended Salem Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Sally Ann Gill of Patriot; three children, Richard Jayne Gill of Pickerington, John K. Catherine Gill of Patriot, and Rebecca Roger Lutz of Sevierville, TN; seven grandchildren, Christopher Tanya Gill, Chelsea Gill, Lynn Simpson, John Stewart Gill and Brodie Scott Gill, Ashley fianc Nate Kitzis Myers and Eric Myers; four great grandchildren, Grant, Hannah and Blair Simpson and Courtney Paige Gill; one brother, William M. Garnett Gill and one sister, Eva Ann Musgrave both of Gallipolis Ferry, WV ; a niece and nephew, William Gill and Kimberly Gill; one great nephew, Brayden Kingery; and numerous cousins across the country. Services will be 1 p.m, Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Willis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Salem Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, September 4, 2008 from 5-9 p.m. Masonic Services will be at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. There will be military graveside services by volunteers of area veteran's lodges. Pallbearers will be Chris Gill, John S. Gill, Brodie Gill, Eric Myers, William Gill, and William Gill Jr. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in John's memory to the Salvation Army.
