John E. Hammond, 77, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family. John was born on August 21, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Floyd (Margaret) Hammond and Delsie Talbert. John was a retired construction worker and attended Macedonia Church. He enjoyed auto body repair, and his passion was wood carving. John married Savilla "Sue" Sanders Hammond on January 22, 1968; and she survives him, along with two daughters, Cindy (Bryan) Vance of Gallipolis and Ronda (Dave) Crager of Gallipolis; one son, Frederick (Alisha) Hammond of Apple Grove, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Joni (Mark) Nolan, Savilla (Doug) Martin, Kacy (Bryan) Davenport, Amiee (Tyler) Price, Becca (Brian) Williams, and Holly (Josh) Davenport; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Tim Hammond of Grove City, Ohio and Kenneth (Sherry) Hammond of Patriot, Ohio; two sisters, Sally (Gary) Davis of Kansas City, Missouri and Paula (John) Dill of London, Ohio; special friends, Marge Kemper, Jackie Owens, Tom Stephens, Jim Harrison, and Randy Phillips; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son, John Stephen Hammond; three brothers, Jerry Hammond, Earl Tom Hammond, and Gary Whaley; and one sister, Lucy "Sister" Kennison. The funeral service for John will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Wiseman officiating. His burial will follow in Gallia Baptist Cemetery.
