John J. Jeffers, 88, of Gallipolis, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1921 in Clay Township, Gallia County, Ohio, son of the late Ralph M. and Jenette C. Finley Jeffers. John married Gay Smith on October 21, 1950 and she survives him. He was a retired heavy equipment operator in the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18. John was a WWII ArmyAir Corps Veteran and was a POW for one year. He was a member of VFW Post 4464, American Legion Post 27, DAV, 99th Bomb Group, Ex-Prisoners of War and a Kentucky Colonel. He attended First Church of God. Surviving are his wife, Gay Jeffers of Gallipolis; a daughter, Jill D. Dan R. Roush of Texas; a daughter, Karen Ora Shaver of Chillicothe; a son, Dennis Donna Kittle of Springfield; five grandchildren, Heather Roush, Michael Shaver, Jeff Sherry Shaver, Shawn Kittle, Ginger Bowman; several great grandchildren; one brother, Jack Nina Jeffers of Gallipolis; one sister, Lenice Calvin Waugh of Columbus; loving caregivers, Sharon Stewart, Kandi Marcum and Ashley Marcum. John was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Michael in infancy, two brothers Joe R. Jeffers and Jake Jeffers and a sister Ruth J. Jeffers. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. There will be full military honors by volunteers of area veteran???s lodges.
