John Paul Porter

John Paul Porter, age 77, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Nokomis, Florida, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009 of brain cancer. John, the son of Curtis and Grace Scott Porter, was born. He grew up on a farm on Route 218 near Mercerville. He graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1950 and Rio Grande College in 1959. He served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He worked for 35 years as a senior research physicist at the B.F. Goodrich Research Center in Brecksville, Ohio. John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eleanor Sue Givens Porter; a brother, Bill of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; and a sister, Joanne Downes of New York City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an older brother, Harold 'Hal' Porter in June, 2009. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Lusher officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cheshire. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2009. There will be a flag presentation at the graveside by volunteers of area veteran's lodges.
