June Virginia Hudson

April 3, 1923 — December 22, 2024

June Virginia (Spencer) Hudson (April 3, 1923 - December 22, 2024)

June was born to George W. Spencer and Ruth Olah (Lewis) Spencer in Oklahoma. She was born on an Indian Reservation where her mother taught school, before passing away when June was only five years old.  June briefly lived in Michigan as a child before coming to West Virginia with her father where she made her home with her grandparents, Henry and Ersula Lewis (known to June as Mommy and Poppy) in the Pine Grove Community where she also attended church and school.

June lived a very long and meaningful life, and she treasured her family and church above all else.  She attended, taught Sunday school, taught Vacation Bible School, played piano, and sang in choirs at various churches, including Concord Baptist, Fairfield Methodist, French City Baptist, Good News Baptist, and Cheshire Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Chester Oliver Hudson and by siblings George, Richie, Frank, Glendale, Francis, Clyde, and Wayne Spencer.

June is survived by her six children, Larry (Patty) Hudson, Judy Jones, Les Roger (Connie) Hudson, Susie (Ralph, deceased) Miller, John (Patty) Hudson, and Clay Hudson; her grandchildren, Joey (Polly) VanSickle, Daniel Scott Ark (Lu Ann) VanSickle, Victor (Terri) VanSickle, Randall VanSickle, Brerry (Amy) Hudson, Todd (Missy) Hudson, Rick (Heidi) Hudson, Dane (Jaime) Hudson, Leslie Hudson, Corey (Candace) Miller, Heather Hudson, Andrea Hudson, Cassie (Joe) Davis, Caroline Hudson, Kyle Hudson, Stacy Doss, and Brandy, Decker, and Yogi Hudson (grand-dog, whom she loved like a grandchild); her great grandchildren, John VanSickle, Cher Nuckles, Emily VanSickle, Ty VanSickle, Jaime (Brian) Ratliff, Ava, Lena, and Nick Hudson, Austin and Gracie Webb, Drew Hudson, and Danielle Sanders; and her great-great grandchildren, Leo Sanders, Bowen Sanders, Parker VanSickle, Hudson VanSickle, Jacob Davis, Caden Davis, Clayton Hudson, Jack Hudson, Layla Ratliff, Bowen Ratliff, and Stevie Decker.

June was loved and treasured by family, friends, and acquaintances alike; she was known to most simply as “Granny.”  She would give you a warm place to stay, a home-cooked meal, or batch of fresh cookies, or a hand-quilted blanket in a heartbeat and want nothing in return except to see you enjoy them.  She touched the lives and hearts of many and will be very sorely missed, and never forgotten.

She is truly at peace with her Lord and Savior now, where she so long and so often worked to be.  “The Master said, Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!”

Pallbearers will be Victor VanSickle, Ty VanSickle, Ark VanSickle, Todd Hudson, Rick Hudson, and Kyle Hudson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Brerry Hudson, Dane Hudson, Joey VanSickle, Randy VanSickle, Corey Miller, and Dallas Martin.

Visitation will be Friday, December 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Willis Funeral Home, Gallipolis, Ohio; the funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with John Thompson officiating. Her burial will follow in Concord Cemetery, Mason County, West Virginia.
