Karen A. Cornell, 78, of Crown City, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at her residence.
Born on December 4, 1946 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Karen was the daughter of the late Ralph Holmes and Ruby Violet Queen McClead. On August 23, 1968, Karen married Daniel E. Cornell, who survives her in Crown City. In 1964, Karen graduated from Cairo High School in Ritchie County, West Virginia. Karen pursued postsecondary degrees by earning a Bachelor of Arts from Glenville State College in 1967 and a Master’s Degree from Marshall University in 1971. She retired from Gallia County Local Schools after teaching first and third grade at Hannan Trace Elementary School. Karen was a very giving person; she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Gallia County Retired Teachers, and Crown City Community Church. She also enjoyed ceramics, traveling, and spending time in their cabin in North Carolina, and loving on her grandkids.
Karen is survived by her husband, Daniel E. Cornell of Crown City; son, Richard (Lorie) Cornell of Concord, Michigan; two grandchildren, Autumn and Nathanael; sister-in-law, Lois Carter of Gallipolis; nieces, Kristy Jo and Joy Annette; and nephew, Jay.
A Graveside Service for Karen will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Cairo Masonic Cemetery, Cairo, West Virginia with her son presiding. The funeral service for Karen will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Thompson officiating. Friends and family may call Thursday prior to the service from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
