Kathryn (Katie) Ethel Mink Irwin, 88, of Gallipolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Born September 3, 1933 in Gallipolis, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Meda Drummond Mink.
Katie was a 1951 graduate of Gallia Academy High School.
In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by her husband, George Melvin Irwin, whom she married June 26, 1953, and who preceded her in death on August 28, 2016. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kenneth Ryan Curry; a sister, Frances Green; and a brother, Jack Mink, as well as a nephew, Jeff Fulkerson (who was like a brother).
Katie loved Jesus more than life itself and wanted nothing more in life than to please Him. She loved to Praise the Lord and did not hesitate to express it. Two of her favorite Bible passages were Psalm 91 and Psalm 103. Her biggest desire was to see souls saved, especially those of her family. Her children and grandchildren were her most precious possessions on earth.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rio Grande, Ohio.
Katie is survived by four children, Ernie (Vicki) Irwin, John (Theresa) Irwin, Becky (Mark) Curry, all of Gallipolis, and Betsy (Richard) Henderson of Waverly, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Kelli (Geoff) Cunningham, Daniel (Cheyenne) Irwin, Joshua (Kali) Curry, Elicia (Kyle) Scott, Caleb (Allison) Curry, and Jake and Joe Henderson; step granddaughter, Ashley (Chris) Brown; seven great grandchildren, Katy and Evan Cunningham, Grayson and Tinsley Irwin, Rowan Scott, and twins Ryleigh and Raegan Cunningham; and step great grandsons, Bowen and Baker Brown.
The funeral service for Katie will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Young officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Rio Grande, Ohio. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Irwin, Joshua Curry, Caleb Curry, Jake Henderson, Joe Henderson, Kyle Scott, and Geoff Cunningham. Honorary pallbearer will be Jennings Ferguson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katie’s memory to Ohio Valley Christian School, 1100 Fourth Avenue, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 or The Gideons International, P.O. Box 1104, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.
