Laura Margaret Rutt Queen COLUMBUS, Ohio Laura Margaret Rutt Queen, 96, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2010. Laura, the youngest of four children, was born at home on November 7, 1913 in Cadmus, Walnut Township, Gallia County, Ohio, to the late Herman August and Elva Effie Drummond Rutt. Laura started her own business, Laura's Beauty Shop, in Gallipolis, Ohio when only 19 years old, and operated it through the depression and the 1937 flood. She married Earl E. Queen of Oak Hill, Ohio, who preceded her in death in 1966. While in Gallipolis, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Laura and her husband Earl were co-founders of the popular Tri-County Teen Canteen 'sock hop' held throughout Gallia, Meigs and Mason WV counties during the 50's. Laura received many awards for her work with teens in the area. Laura loved flowers as well, and her flower terrace on Hedgewood Drive was a regular stop of local garden clubs. Laura and family moved to Columbus in 1961 where they owned and operated Day Avenue Market. Laura later was a beauty operator at the Cottage Beauty Shop, and retired from Franklin County Children's Services. Laura was also known for her love of all animals, especially cats, and she took in and cared for many strays over the years. She was preceded in death by her father, Herman August Rutt in 1946, mother Elva Effie Drummond Rutt in 1972, husband Earl E. Queen in 1966, brother Dale A. Rutt in 1967, brother Laylin D. Rutt in 2003, sister Willa A. Rutt Saunders in 2004, and her son Tommy L. Queen in 2009. She is survived by her son Richard Earl Ric Queen of Galloway, Ohio, four grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Mound Hill Cemetery in Gallipolis, Ohio, and officiated by Bob Powell.
