Leonard Dale Newberry, born November 9, 1962, was taken from his family on May 28, 2022, after an unexpected health crisis. He passed away at Grant Hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones, holding the hand of loving wife of fifteen years, Danella Newberry of Gallipolis. He rests now with his father, Leonard L. Newberry, who passed away in 2013, but he leaves behind a full stock of memories with his mother, Jieniece (Wandling) Newberry of Point Pleasant, wife Danella, children Mackenzie Newberry of Columbus, Drew (Skylar) and Abby VanSickle of Gallipolis, and Brandon VanSickle of Columbus, big brother and sister, Lynnita (Will) Edmonds of Point Pleasant and Mark Newberry of Gallipolis, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dannie and Carlene Greene of Gallipolis, sisters-in-law Debbie (Greg) Stokes of Williamsburg and Dena (Jon) Way of Hilliard, brother-in-law Scott Greene of Gallipolis, nieces Kalee (Stephen) Brown and Karlee Edmonds of Point Pleasant, Delaney Way of Hilliard, step-granddaughter Amelia VanSickle of Columbus, nephews Logan Edmonds of Point Pleasant, Griffin and Grady Way of Hilliard, and great nephew Leo Brown of Point Pleasant. The son of a farmer, Dale knew well what it meant to work hard. The formative years of his life focused on livestock and crops with Dale and his siblings all showing dairy cows, steers, and pigs at the Gallia County Fair and working sunup to sundown in hay and tobacco fields. This upbringing served him well when he owned and operated his own dairy farms in Gallipolis and Kenton, Ohio with his brother, Mark. Later in life, the brothers would embark on a new career that would have Dale climbing poles to set up cable wires for Netstar and AT&T from coast to coast. In recent years, he worked at APG Polytech. Dale was a 1981 graduate of Southwestern High School where he proved to be an avid athlete, playing baseball, basketball, and above else, football in which he was ranked SVAC for two years and then again for all four years of his enrollment at Wilmington College where he received a BS in Business in 1986. His love of football continued throughout his life as he enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Gallia Academy Blue Devils. If anything could compete with football, however, it was family. Whether it was a ballgame, a pageant, or a pig show, Dale was there offering support and “constructive criticism” alike. A king of quips and a master of sarcasm, Dale was constant entertainment for those who knew him. The laughter he sparked and shared is what will be missed most about him and the heat from the light he shone into our lives will endure in our hearts and minds forever. The family will hold calling hours for Dale on Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 5-8 p.m. and funeral services on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Ray Kane officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Mark Newberry, Drew VanSickle, Will and Logan Edmonds, David Wandling, and Wayne Sizemore will serve as pallbearers for the service with Stephen Henry, Bob Foster, Chris Fitch, Jimmy Sayre, Greg Stokes, and Jon Way being named honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gallia County Fair, P.O. Box 931, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 in honor of Dale and the affection he held for both the grounds, its exhibitors, and the community it helps to bring together.
