Letitia “Tish” Venz Miller Hudson, 66, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. She proved to be quite the “outlier” many times during her valiant 26-month battle with metastatic lung cancer. She surprised and impressed her oncology team with her tenacity! (So much so, that her case is being written up in the American and British Medical Journals.)
Tish was born November 7, 1955 in Oak Ridge, TN to Loren and Olive (Venz) Miller; the family moved to Gallipolis, Ohio in 1960 where she attended St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and made lifelong friends through church and school. She attended Gallipolis City Schools and graduated in 1973 (with honors) from Gallia Academy. She attended the University of Kentucky and later, the University of Rio Grande where she earned her Bachelor of Nursing degree, again with honors. Tish spent decades caring for others starting in the Neonatal Intensive Care. Later as a hospice nurse, she provided much love and support as she guided her patients and their families through difficult transitions. Everyone who knew Tish knew what a beautiful and caring soul she had and the enormous compassion she had for both people and animals.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Clay Hudson, and their beloved children Kyle Matthew Clay and Caroline Olivia, along with their partners, Amanda Smith and Zane Evicks. Tish is also survived by her big brother, Jim, of Gallipolis and little sisters Anne (Mike) Bonfils of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Micaela (Rick) Reves of Grand Prairie, Texas. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and hundreds of NICU babies and many loving friends! (Including her lifelong (and longest) friend, Maria Hanson Boone.)
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 6-8 pm at Willis Funeral Home, 12 Garfield Ave, Gallipolis, OH 45631 and her service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 7, 2022 also at Willis Funeral Home. At the conclusion of the service, Tish will be honored by the Nurse Honor Guard of the Ohio Valley. Private burial will be in Addison-Reynolds Cemetery, where her dearly loved Grandparents, Rev. Emil and Annette “Dasher” Venz, are laid to rest.
Pallbearers will be Jim Miller, Beau Miller, Zane Evicks, John Wells, Scott (Ark) VanSickle, and Dow Saunders.
Flowers are appreciated, but you may also consider a donation in her memory to “Nurse Honor Guard of the Ohio Valley,” 9994 State Rt. 7 South, Gallipolis, OH 45631 or Friends of Gallia County’s Animals at PO Box 252, Rio Grande, OH 45674. (PayPal to [email protected] or Venmo at @friendsgca2021).
