Lewellyn Wells Lew Roush, of Gallipolis, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2011. He was born January 26, 1919 in Graham Station, West Virginia, son of the late Dewey and Esther Cook Roush. Lew was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma Roush and his second wife, Avalon Gardner Roush on July 19, 2009. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran serving in the 101st Airborne, The Screaming Eagles and participated at D-Day parachuting into Normandy and also received The Purple Heart. He retired as Coal Yard Supervisor for the Kyger Creek Power Plant in 1981, was a lifetime member of BPOE #107 and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gallipolis. Surviving are his children, Mary (Phil) Pope of Gallipolis, Myra Roush and Louellen (Jeff) Zaharko, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jane (William) Bird and Kay Roush, both of New Haven, West Virginia; grandchildren, Bob (Jennifer) Foster, Joe (Melinda) Foster, Amanda (Stuart) Thompson, Sarah (Benji) Black, Timothy Bird, Aaron French; great grandchildren: Megan, Mandy, Taylor, Morgan, Thomas and Kate Foster, Rhett and Alaina Thompson; sisters, Ruth Walker, Alice Gum, Louise Roush, Evelyn (Marshall) Cox, Suzanna King; brothers, Norris (Elizabeth) Roush and Bob (Golda) Roush. In addition to his parents and his two wives, he is preceded in death by a sister, Ada Mae Wolfe and a brother, Rollin Roush. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Luoma officiating. Entombment will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Chapel of Hope Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral on Sunday. There will be full military services by volunteers of area veterans lodges. Pallbearers will be Bob Foster, Joe Foster, Aaron French, Timothy Bird, William Bird, and Jeff Zaharko. Honorary Pallbearers will be Phil Pope, Don Pope, Alan Kuhn and Chad Pope.
