Lois J. Carter Sheets

Lois J. Carter Sheets, 64, of Gallipolis, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Holzer Medical Center Emergency Room. She was born on October 14, 1943 in Cadmus, Ohio, daughter of the late Joseph Carter and Lucille Harrison Carter, who survives her. Lois married William Paige Sheets on October 24, 1964 and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2007. She graduated with a B.A. in Education from Rio Grande College and with an M.S. from Marshall University. Lois retired from teaching after 37 years, 1965 1992 at Southwestern High School and 1992 2003 at River Valley High School. She was a Martha Jennings-Holden Scholar, Teacher of the Year in 1994, Advisor to Beta Club, Senior Class Advisor at Southwestern High School and River Valley High School, a member of Gallia County Retired Teachers, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of Sandfork Baptist Church. Surviving are her sons, Lynn Jo Anne Sheets of Gallipolis and Gene Pauline Sheets of Ray, Ohio; two grandchildren, Mercedes Lynn Sheets and William Logan Sheets; her mother, Lucille Carter of Cadmus; her brother, Keith Carter of Patriot; nieces and nephews, Jay Carter of Patriot, Kristi J. Robert Akers of Jasper, TN, Joy Mark Runyon of Columbus and William Wilson of California; great niece and great nephews, Matthew Runyon, Gracie Runyon and Austin Wilson. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Willis Funeral Home with Cindy Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, May 24, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jay Carter, William Wilson, Pat Stout, Dave Moore, Ed Slagle, Brian Jenkins, Denny Evans, Jody Carter and Jeff Carter.
