Louise Saunders

Aileen Louise Saunders, 92, of Gallipolis, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 17, 2023, at Holzer Health Systems due to natural causes. Louise, the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Myrtle Luellen, was born May 11, 1931, and was the youngest of 10 children. She was also the last living. She is survived by her six children, Duston (Joanne) Saunders of Cornwall, New York, Penny (Bill) Burleson of Gallipolis, Debby (Mike) Simmons of Gallipolis, Jim (Lynn) Saunders of Brownsburg, Indiana, Colin (Tracy) Saunders of Gallipolis, and LuEllen Scouten of Lenexa, Kansas. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise worked as a licensed practical nurse for over 30 years and retired in 1996 from Holzer Health Systems. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Gallipolis for 53 years and loved gardening, watching birds, reading extensively, and being with her family who relied on her for her infinite wisdom and unfailing love and support. Anyone who knew her respected her for her outstanding work ethic, faithful Christian walk, considerable knowledge of Scripture, and unconditional love for her family and friends. Louise will be missed greatly by all who knew her as Mom, Grandma, Grammy, and friend. Calling hours will be held on July 1, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Gallipolis from 10:00 to 11:00 am with the funeral service immediately following in the church sanctuary.  Honors will be given at the service by the Nurse Honor Guard of the Ohio Valley.  Burial will follow in Rife Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Louise’s memory to the Ohio Valley Christian School, 1100 Fourth Avenue, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.
