Lucille Stewart

December 29, 1944 — January 22, 2020

Lucille Stewart, 75, of Patriot, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at her residence where she lived with her daughter Sharon Renee Stewart and boyfriend Timothy. Born on December 29, 1944 in Avawam, Kentucky, Lucille was the daughter of the late William Dan and Hallie Jean Simpson. She formerly resided in Miamisburg, Ohio and Dayton, Ohio. Lucille married John R. Stewart on January 26, 1963 in Hyden, Kentucky. They had four children together, and Lucille raised a daughter as her own child. They were married for fifteen years; although they did not remain married, they stayed best friends until John was called home to be with the Lord. In 1991, Lucille met a man named Norman C. Brightman. They were later engaged and together for 17 years until an unexpected illness called him home to the Lord. Lucille was a homemaker, Sunday School teacher, nurse’s aide, housekeeper, and store clerk. She loved the outdoors. Lucille enjoyed fishing, camping, swimming, gardening, canning, sewing, quilt making, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite colors were lavender and turquoise; her favorite flower was sweet williams and roses. Lucille had a heart of gold. She touched the life of everyone who knew her. Everyone will always have his or her special memories of Lucille whether she helped with a place to stay, a hot meal to eat, gave one of her beautiful handmade quilts away for warmth, made beautiful flower arrangements for weddings, babysat for children, helped to plan special events, or was just there as a friend to listen, love, support, and give advice. Lucille will be greatly missed. She would not want everyone grieving; she would want everyone to remember the good times. In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her siblings, Johnny Dwayne Simpson, Bertha Simpson, Zola Gilbert, Hoy Allan Simpson, and a baby brother. Lucille is survived by her children, Barbara (Dan) Hile of Beavercreek, Ohio, John (Jan) Stewart, Jr. of New Lebanon, Ohio, Ernest (Tara) Stewart of Kettering, Ohio, Sharon (Tim) Stewart of Patriot, Ohio, and Angela Kerns of Dayton, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and siblings, Corine Morgan of Kentucky, Grace Howard of Ohio, Michael Simpson of Tennessee, and Thomas Simpson of Kentucky. The funeral service for Lucille will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Willis Funeral Home. Friends may call prior to the service from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
