Madge E. Boggs, 79, of Gallipolis, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Holzer Assisted Living. She was born July 22, 1934 in Powhatan, West Virginia, daughter of the late Freeman C. Sr. and Janet E. Kegan Pettus. She was a 1952 graduate of Gallia Academy High School. Madge began her career at the Ohio Valley Bank in 1961 as a teller and retiring from the bank in 1993 as the first female Vice President and Controller. She also had the distinction of being the first woman to serve as president of the Ohio-Kentucky Chapter of the Bank Administration Institute. She served two terms as president of the Gallipolis Business and Professional Women’s Club, where in 1981 she was named Woman of the Year. She was a member of Northup Baptist Church, having served as Sunday School treasurer and pianist, the 4-H Advisory Board, and the GAHS Alumni Association. Surviving are her daughters, Cindy (Bill) Thomas of Lancaster and Cathy Waller of Athens; four grandchildren, Alyssa Thomas of Oriskany, NY, Cody Thomas of Lancaster, Thor Waller and Dane Waller, both of Athens; a sister, Joan M. Knight of Pompano Beach, Florida and a brother, Freeman C. Pettus Jr. of Mulberry, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Schowengerdt. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday November 17, 2013 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Centenary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Holzer Assisted Living for their devotion and loving care of Madge. Although she has left the building she will forever be in their hearts.
