Marianne Boggs Campbell, 97, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at her residence. She was born on July 28, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of William O. and Arista Harrington Boggs. Marianne was married to Bill C. Campbell on October 21, 1950; and he preceded her in death on January 8, 2012. In addition to her husband Bill and her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William A. and Anna Laura Baker Harrington; paternal grandparents, William B. and Lyde Cochran Boggs; her sister-in-law, Dolores “Dee” Boggs; her niece, Marisa Boggs Parsons; and her in-laws, John C. and Belva Mae Waugh Campbell. She is survived by her brother, William H. Boggs of Glendive, Montana; her nephew, William (Laurie) Boggs, Jr. of Boise, Idaho; her niece, Katha Ann Boggs (Tim) Lemoine of LaSalle, Michigan; and her extended family, Maureen and Sam Shriver of Cary, North Carolina, along with many dear and cherished friends. Marianne graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University), earning a BA in Economics, History, and Speech. She also graduated in piano from the Wickersham School of Music and studied violin at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon), where she was a member of the Carnegie Tech Symphony Orchestra. Following graduation in 1948, she came to Gallipolis, where she made her permanent home. Professionally, Marianne was involved with Radio Station WJEH-FM from 1950 - 1967. In 1967, she joined the AVCO Broadcasting Corporation as Corporate Director of Community Affairs. In 1972, she was employed by Holzer Medical Center as Division Director for Community Services and remained there until her retirement in 2002. Upon her retirement, she immediately became a full-time volunteer for the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce and the Community Improvement Corporation of Gallia County. She was the first woman President of both organizations. She was the past chair of the Board of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and was deeply involved with the French Art Colony, the AAA of South Central Ohio, the Holzer Heritage Foundation and many other organizations where she committed her time and service. Marianne was a mentor and trailblazer, accomplishing too many “firsts” and awards to mention. Marianne was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was the Wesley Weds Sunday School Class teacher for many years. The funeral service for Marianne will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Grace Methodist Church with Pastor Ray Kane officiating. Her burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may gather at the church an hour prior to the service, and there will be a reception following the burial.
