Marvin M. Church

Marvin M. Church, 76, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Holzer Medical Center Emergency Room. He was born September 22, 1932 in Liberty Center, Ohio, son of the late Merl and Boneta Winover Church. He was married to Carolyn Nancy 'Nanny' Church and she preceded him in death on June 22, 2008. Marvin was a retired mechanic, having worked with the City of Gallipolis and the Gallia County Highway Garage. He was a Korean War Army Veteran and a member of VFW #4464. Surviving are his three daughters, Teri Gothard of Gallipolis, Mary Johnnie McGuire of Patriot and Joyce Jacob Miller of Cadmus; two sons, Dennis Kay Church of Bidwell and John 'J.D.' Diana Church of Vinton; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four sisters, Eileen Dick Hanker of Defiance, Violet Dick Hatcher of Napoleon, Mary Swain of Bowling Green, and Susie Jim Downs of Defiance; several nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn Nancy 'Nanny' Church, a son, Garry Daniel Church, a sister, Orma Church and two brothers in infancy, Bernard and Clair. Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home with Minister Larry Drummond officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:30 - 1 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday. There will be full military honors by volunteers of area veteran's lodges.
