Mary E. Betty Kyger

Mary E. Betty Kyger passed away Monday, September 24, 2007. She was born October 23, 1920 in Ripley, West Virginia. Betty and her husband, Oren, resided in Ripley until 1960, when the family moved to Gallipolis. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Oren, and her parents, Earl and Irene Hood Bitting of Ripley. She is survived by her sons, Robert, Timothy Billie Sue, Kenneth Gloria and grandchildren, Timothy F., Alex, Lauren, Jonathon and Christopher, all of Gallipolis. Betty graduated from Ripley High School, attended Marshall University and graduated with her degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career in a one-room country school grades 1-12 near Ripley. After moving to Gallipolis, Betty taught at Washington Elementary School until retirement. She dearly loved her students and encouraged them to set goals and attain them. Teaching was her passion. Betty had many fond memories of her students and rejoiced in their success. In retirement, Betty studied family genealogy, enjoyed her bridge club, yard work, flowers, nature, visiting with her friends and family, and helping with her grandchildren. Betty was a Christian, attending Grace United Methodist Church and New Life Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at New Life Lutheran Church, 170 New Life Way, Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to New Life Lutheran Church, Grace United Methodist Church or the Gallia County Camp of the Gideons International, P.O.
