Maxie C. Smith, 75, of Gallipolis, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Hospice of Huntington, Huntington, West Virginia. He was born on March 20, 1934 in Gallia County, son of the late Ardell F. Smith and Lucille Brewer Smith, who survives him. He was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. Maxie was a retired regional manager for Dallas County, Texas Appraisal District and was a lifetime member of the Elks #107. He enjoyed boating on the Ohio River and enjoyed restoring cars. Surviving him are his daughter, Tonja Jeff Millet of Midlothian, Texas; a grandson, Jackson Millet and a granddaughter, Savannah Millet; his mother, Lucille Smith of Gallipolis; a sister, Stella Johnny Howell of Silver Springs, Florida; two brothers, David Sandy Smith of Phoenix, Arizona and Roger Sandy Smith of Rutland; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Betty Clark of Gallipolis. According to Maxie's wishes, his body will be cremated. There will be Elk's services at 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home.
