Maxwell E. 'Max' Johnson, 69, of Crown City went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Hospice of Huntington. He was born on August 30, 1939 in Gallia County, Ohio to the late Hollis P. 'Pearly' and Gladys E. Campbell Johnson. Max was employed by City Ice & Fuel maintenance department; a member of the Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he was very active; an U.S. Army Veteran; a 25 year member of the Patriot Masonic Lodge #496; member of the Gallipolis Shrine Club, Aladdin Temple, and the Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife Peggy Myers Johnson whom he married on August 6, 1967 in Gallia County; one son Jeffrey Jody Johnson of Patriot; one granddaughter Chelsea Hollis Johnson of Patriot; two brothers Bill Loretta Johnson of Gallipolis, and Rex Karen McBride Johnson of Gallipolis; one sister Wanda Barry Roberts of Dayton, Ohio; two uncles Gardner Virginia Campbell of Warren, Ohio, and Bill Marianne Campbell of Gallipolis. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Hollice June Holcomb. Services will be 11 am Wednesday December 3, 2008 at the Providence Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Troy Delaney officiating. Burial will be in the Providence Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 6-9 pm at Willis Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9pm. A flag presentation by veterans of area lodges will be done at the graveside. Pallbearers will be Brent James, Carl Fowler, Tom Wright, Mike Dennison, Tony Meaige, Gary Michael, T.D. Dennis and Steve Hall. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Hospice of Huntington, 1101 6th Avenue Huntington, WV 25701.
