Mose Canterbury

Mose Canterbury, 75, of Gallipolis, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in the Holzer Medical Center emergency room. Mose was retired from real estate and insurance sales due to poor health. Mose was a paratrooper in the US Army serving during the Korean War, a member of the First Baptist Church in Gallipolis, and a member of the Queen City Masonic Lodge #559 in Cincinnati. He had attended Marshall University. Mose enjoyed NASCAR and gardening and was an honorary Kentucky Colonel. He was born on April 20, 1934 in Mingo County, West Virginia to the late Percy and Laura York Canterbury. Surviving him are his wife Bess Perry Canterbury whom he married on May 27, 1958 in Logan, West Virginia of Gallipolis, two daughters Angelia Denise Canterbury of Gallipolis, and Dianna Lynn Canterbury of Baltimore, Maryland; four grandsons Andrew Bryant Canterbury of Coalton, Ohio, Levi David Canterbury of Gallipolis, Zachary Canterbury Paisley and Jonah Canterbury Paisley both of Baltimore, Maryland. Mose was preceded in death by a son David Carl Canterbury in 2002, infant twin sons M. Dana and R. Darrell Canterbury, a granddaughter Cassandra Lynn Canterbury in 1985, His parents Percy and Laura Canterbury, a brother Paul Canterbury and a sister Pauline Runyon. Funeral services will be 1 pm Monday, November 30, 2009 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastors Alfred Holley and Randy Carnes officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 6-9 pm at Willis Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic Service at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:30 pm. Military rites will be given at the graveside by volunteers of area veterans lodges. Pallbearers will be Andrew Canterbury, Levi Canterbury, Kevin Roach, Doug Smith, and Bruce Runyon.
